 Hello Everyone!

Well, here we are in March and it’s still real cold out there. I’m ready for spring time, flowers in the yard, the birds chirping in our yard, etc....  Bring on spring!!

Classes have been a tad slow this past season, and I apologize for that. It seems that the economy has played a huge part in this, however I am very optimistic that things will start changing around again, real soon!

I’ve started doing some group classes for clubs/groups or a group of girlfriends. These classes are a lot of fun, and I come to you. I will also, bring the paints, brushes and most supplies needed to paint up a project.  So... if you want to give your close friends or club a unique experience, call me and I can tell you more about it.

If you’ve taken a class from me in the past, and have not provided me with a testimonial yet, I would love to be able to share your testimonial on my web site, with your permission of course.

Send me a quick note and let me know what you are working on right now.  I’d love to hear all about it. What inspires you to paint?  What subject matter do you love to paint? Do you listen to the TV or music when you paint?   And if so, what do you listen to, ie. what kind of music do you like painting to?

Share this info with me, and I will put together your answers for our next newsletter.

Well... painting friends, until next time, happy painting!!

New Product Will Save Us Time and $$$

As most of you know, I have been trying and experimenting with a new line of paints and mediums. This line is a resin based high quality acrylic that can perform as an acrylic, watercolor or oil paint.  The variety of techniques this one paint will allow us to do, will save us oodles of time and money. I love to paint with oils, and I know that a lot of you are really keen on trying this technique or would love to be able to try working with oils, but some of you have told me that you are allergic to the fumes or contents.  Oils and many other paints, have a lot of chemicals and pigments that are known to be toxic or are suspected to be toxic, however in this line of paint, there are no pigments used that are suspected toxic. All we need to do is add a different medium to the paint, and it will perform as if it were oils, watercolors or regular acrylics, at the same time knowing that we are all 100% safe!

Also, because this paint is an acrylic (water) base, this allows us to dry our piece quickly and carry on with our next step. However, if you were working with oils, it would take days for your surface to dry before you could continue on to your next step.

Of course, color theory is and always will be a very important aspect of painting, which is another exciting aspect of this new line. In the past, in my opinion, too much emphasis has been placed on color names, brands and conversion charts.   It is a very frustrating part of painting, trying to find a certain color, to find out that perhaps it was discontinued and no longer available, or to have bottles and bottles of colors.  Well with this line of paint, we will no longer need to rely on other companies for this, or have a zillion bottles sitting on our shelves, as we will be able to mix every color ourselves.

So, with that said, I have been playing with these paints and mediums, and so far, I have to say I’m pretty excited and love what I see so far.  Right now, I am starting to work on a set of 3 paintings -  Owls sitting on a tree. Above you will see one of the three pieces.  Once I have completed this set, I will set a date for you to take this course, and try this new line of paint for yourself. If I’m still as thrilled after doing this series of paintings as I am now, we will move over to this line of paints. A basic palette consists of 10 paints and a couple mediums, and is very reasonably priced.  You’ll be surprised at the $$ you will be saving.

I’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Being prepared for class also means practice!

What I am about to refer to will cover a multitude of incidents that I’m sure most of you have experienced at least once in a class. The most basic technique of decorative painting is side loading your brush so you can shade and highlight.  The basic stroke for this is the “C” & “S” stroke that you learned in beginner 1. This is like learning to read in grade one so you can move on to the other grades and then to high school. What I am seeing with those who are frustrated in class, is always caused by the lack of skill with this basic technique of side loading. Why? Either, you haven’t learnt these strokes in classes taught by other instructors, or YOU DO NOT PRACTICE.

If you are having trouble with this step, you will struggle with everything else.

Also, you can hardly expect to become proficient at something if you rarely touch a brush between classes. PLEASE - Learn Your Basics!!!

Solution:  That’s what a “Side Loading Clinic” or a “Beginner Class” is all about…  Request to take one!!
